Applying Makeup Correctly

Every one of us makeup enthusiasts have made mistakes when it comes to makeup application. Here is a list of makeup mistakes that are so easy to make, but fortunately just as easy to fix.

Not Applying Eyeshadow Primer

Most eyeshadow lovers have experienced the disappointment of applying eyeshadow or liner, only to have it disappear within a few hours, smudge, crease, or all of the above. If you are discouraged because this is happening to you, it is probably because you are not using an eyeshadow primer.

It may seem unnecessary to shell out money for a little tube of mysterious gunk, but eyeshadow primer is one of the most revolutionizing products for any makeup routine. It gives your makeup a base to adhere to, giving you the confidence to rock a look all day. It also allows the colors to blend more effectively and appear more vibrant.

If you are not already, smooth a thin coat of eyeshadow primer over any part of your eye that you will be applying liner or shadow, let it set, then apply your liner or shadow on top.

Not Curling Your Lashes

Not taking advantage of an eyelash curler is one of the most common mistakes when applying eye makeup. Using one will instantly give you a more awake appearance while framing your eyes in a gorgeous way.

For the perfect curl, place the curler at the base of your lashes and pump the curler a few times. Next, move the curler up to the middle of your lashes and repeat. Make sure that you are doing this before you add mascara in order to prevent clumping.
Applying Makeup on Dry or Flaky Skin

Applying makeup to dry, flaky skin is a huge mistake that is so fixable! Makeup is sometimes used to conceal rough patches on the skin, so it can be quite sad when it ironically emphasizes them instead.
To keep makeup from doing anything but bringing out the beauty in your skin, be sure to use your favorite moisturizer before applying foundation and a lip balm before using lipstick. Do, however, give it a few minutes to set in. This will provide you with a smoother canvas to work with and will keep makeup from collecting in flaky areas.

Using Fingers to Apply Foundation

Unless you are using a tinted moisturizer, foundation should typically be applied with a brush or a sponge instead of with your fingers. Using fingers can work in an "emergency," but it can also make it easy to apply too much product or achieve an uneven distribution. A foundation brush or makeup sponge allows for a more precise and even application while making the most of a small amount of product.

Using Too Much Foundation

It is pretty easy for most of us to identify someone who might be wearing too much foundation, yet a lot of us still find ourselves doing it from time to time. This can happen as a result of relying on foundation to cover all blemishes. However, foundation should be used only to even out the skin tone. Trying to use it to cover every flaw is frustrating and it allows for a much-too-heavy-handed application.

Instead, try using a small amount of foundation as a base. Concealer is for blemishes. Dot a small amount on a concealer brush and apply and blend directly over any blemishes.
